Piaggio trike?

I am disabled and ride a 125cc trike. The petrol tank filler is right up against the battery,and as the aperture is small, there is difficulty fitting the nozzle into it, and it's impossible to see how much petrol is in the tank. This means that the petrol splashes up onto the battery. Is this dangerous???? I am very concerned about my bike bursting into flame at the pumps, as I would not be able to get out of the way!!! HELP???
